Laser cutter

We have a laser cutter, Epilog Zing. It can be operated between 8.00-17.00 to ensure that staff is on hand during operation.

Safety rules for laser cutter

  • Ensure you have read the instruction material before use. If you feel unsure, ask a college or Makerspace staff.
  • Make sure that the laser cutter's ventilation is working properly. Laser cutting can produce fumes and gases that are harmful if inhaled. Ventilation also helps escape particles and combustible gases that can ignite.
  • Report any defects or malfunctions to the Makerspace staff immediately.
  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions for using the laser cutter, including the recommended settings for the material being cut.
  • Always supervise the laser cutter while it is in use and be prepared to shut it off immediately in case of an emergency.
